... oh gods, that rhymed. I'm sorry.
I stumbled upon this site and was somewhat intrigued. Not sure I'll post much - we'll see - but I'll look around.
Anyway, if someone more seasoned has any tips on what a newbie would typically start out doing, I'm all ears!

Hello and welcome.
If you plan on uploading art to the site, it might be a good idea to upload 4 of your best works so that you are eligible for scouting. That way more people can see your art.

Other than that, I guess you are free to explore around and look at the games/animations/art/music people have uploaded here over the years.
If you want to contribute to the community, you can go and rate recently posted movies and games:
https://www.newgrounds.com/movies/under_judgment and https://www.newgrounds.com/games/under_judgment.
Based on people's ratings they either get added to the site or deleted permanently, so your opinion definitely matters. Doing so also increases your account rank (currently civilian).
You can also contribute by going to the art section and browsing the "unscouted submissions",
https://www.newgrounds.com/art/unscouted
and recommending artists with content that you think is good enough to be added to the main art portal.
You can also go and browse the forums and other people's blog posts under the "community"
You can also see other content creators looking for assistance with their projects there.
Of course none of that is mandatory. You are free to explore the site and do anything you feel like doing.
